Invasive Species Map

Not every immigrant to the Land of Israel is welcome! If your ancestors didn't live here, then you could upset the ecosystem. Every animal and plant has its own natural habitat, where it lives in balance with predators and everything else. When you transfer an animal or plant to a new part of the world, it can spread uncontrolled. This can displace native species, bring diseases for which there is no local resistance, and cause widespread damage. 

This image, created as a wall display for the Biblical Museum of Natural History, depicts just a few of the animal and plant immigrants from all over the world that have spread out of control in Israel. It is illegal to import any species without permission from the Israel Nature & Parks Authority (INPA). At the museum you can meet some creatures that were confiscated by the INPA from people who imported them illegally and given to the museum for safekeeping.
